A manufacturing plant is looking at units shipped for a 3-year period. In 2005, the plant shipped 12,500 units. In 2008, the plant shipped 16,000 units. Find the rate of change of units shipped over the 3-year period.

    Consider the coordinates (0,12500) and (3,16000) as x= 0 would represent year 2005, and x= 3 would represent year 2008. So the rate of change between these two points is just the slope of the line passing through these two points. So use the formula for slope to find the average rate of change between these two points.
