is there a major upside to using Adobe Photoshop over Paint.Net?

    Older, commercial applications generally have more commercial tools and plugins available. Paint.NET, gimp, and other free/open source tools tend to have less support. On the other hand, there are plenty of people that use these free tools, give free tutorials on them, and do some pretty amazing work with them.

    Paint.net does support custom extensions though :> (Glorious paint.net master race)
