help with fractions PLEASE!!!!

    this is a proportion problem in 4 1/2 hours it rose 1 1/4 inches so in 1 hour it rose 1 / 1/4 divided by 4 1/2

    i know i did these before :) i just dont get fractions :( i dont know how to add or subtract or divide or anything

    do do this division you convert each fraction to an 'improper fraction' 4 1/2 = 8 1/2 's + 1/2 = 9 1/2's = 9/2 1 1/4 = 4 1/4's + 1/4 = 5 / 4

    there are 8 1/2's in 4 because there are 2 1/2's in one and 4*2 = 8

    when we divide fractions we invert the second one ( the one we are dividing by) and multiply so|dw:1432918164656:dw|

    multiplyimg fractions is easy - just multiply the 2 top numbers and multiply the 2 bottom

    you can simply this one first because 2 divides into 2 and 4
