eh my mom would know more about this than me but I would go with something like starving the child, beating ,sexual abuse, not buying the necessities it needs to live with.

this is wikipedia: Shaken baby syndrome (SBS) is a constellation of medical findings (often referred to as a "triad"): subdural hematoma, retinal bleeding, and brain swelling from which physicians, consistent with current medical understanding, infer child abuse caused by violent shaking. In a majority of cases there is no visible sign of external injury. Shaken baby syndrome is a subset of the broader form of child abuse termed abusive head trauma.

Sometimes they do it because they are deprived of sleep others could just be abusive parents and not really care what happens to their children.

I googled the definition of Shaken Baby Syndrome: sha·ken ba·by syn·drome noun injury to a baby caused by being shaken violently and repeatedly. Shaking can cause swelling of the brain, internal bleeding, detached retinas leading to blindness, mental retardation, and death.
