Part 2: *same diagram!* What does this diagram indicate about the speed of light in the three media? A. Light travels faster in Medium 3 than in Medium 2. B.     With greater refraction the light will have to travel farther and will take more time to reach a given destination. The higher the refractive index, the lower the speed at which light travels.

    so for part 1, is choice D the accurate answer? or would it be choice A? :/ they wouldn't be equal right? I am between those two choice (A and D) now :/

    when light moves from a material in which its speed is higher to a material in which its speed is lower, the ray is bent toward the normal

    so from medium n1 to n2, the ray is bending away from the normal, therefore the speed of light is faster in n2 than in n1

    So to summarize. When light moves from a material in which its speed is higher to a material in which its speed is lower, the ray is bent toward the normal When light moves from a material in which its speed is lower to a material in which its speed is higher, the ray is bent away from the normal The slower the light moves through a medium, the higher the index of refraction. glass has n = 1.66 diamond has 2.419
