Unemployment insurance basically just gives the one who got laid off an income. Imagine a father of three kids losing his job without cause, he would need money and some sort of reasonable income to provide for his family. But in order to qualify from UI benefits, a person must have lost a job through no fault of his or her own and be ready, willing, and able to take a "suitable" new job.
