this comes down to a matter of perspective. An allelle is a heritable unit whose existence can be deduced throught genetic breeding experimentation. A gene is the subunit of DNA that codes for a single protein. genes are discovered and described directy through the application of molecular biology techniques and DNA sequence analysis. A chromosome is a large strand of superclustered eukaryotic DNA that is the primary location of genetic information in a eukaryotic organism. Chromosomes contain genes. Chromosomes also contain structural and regulatory elements in addition to genes.
