The metric system is able to measure things to a very very precise amount. The metric system is also very easily convertable.
You can break anything down to make it precise. 1", 1/2", 1/4", 1/8", 1/132....whatever. Here is the real answer: Increments of 10. How many inches in a foot? 12 How many centimeters in a meter? 100 How many feet in a mile? 5280 How many meters in a kilometer? 1000 So, now: How many inches in a mile: 5280 x 12 But: How many centimeters in a kilometer? 100 x 1000 Which one would you rather calculate? :) Now, add to that measures of volume... How many cubic inches in a pint? (I'll leave you to figure this out if you want). How many cubic centimeters in a Liter? 10 Now weigh that same amount.... A pint of water weighs? Whatever, you'll need to do the calculations for this, too. A Liter of water, however, weighs 1000 grams (or, 1 kilogram). So, you can see that conversions take much less time and thought (so long as I didn't type something incorrectly). :)
