A rectangle has a length of 9.00 inches and a width of 4.25 inches. What is the area in square inches? Round to the correct significant digits.

    Area = length * breadth = 9.00 * 4.25 = 38.25 Both 9.00 and 4.25 are correct to 3 significant digits. So, the answer should be correct to three decimal digits as well and hence the answer is 38.3 Just remember: For adding, use "least accurate place". For multiplying, use "least number of significant digits".
