What is soil parent material? the material that breaks down a soil the water that drains through soil the rock that a soil is made from the organisms that live in soil

    Soil is formed slowly as rock (the parent material) crumbles into tiny pieces near the Earth's surface. Organic matter decays and mixes with inorganic material (rock particles, minerals and water) to create soil.
