Why did Coolidge refuse aid to the Mississippi flood victims? He did not believe the government should help victims of natural disasters. He did not get the support of Mississippi voters in the 1924 elections. He needed to cut government expenditure to balance the budget. He believed “the chief business of the American people is business.”
