Use the pythagorean theorem to find x

i still have 5 is it wrong :(
anonymous
  • anonymous
8.1 ?
anonymous
  • anonymous
Well if we have \[4^{2}+5^{2}=9^{2}\] then that will give us 16 + 25 = 81 \[41\neq81\]
anonymous
  • anonymous
Yeah I got 8.1 too

In order for it to be a right triangle, the formula would be \[a^{2}+b ^{2}=c ^{2}\] So lets try out the first one. 7^2 + 9^2 = 13^2 that gives us, 49 + 81 = 169. Is that equal?
anonymous
  • anonymous
no?
anonymous
  • anonymous
Nope. Try out another one
anonymous
  • anonymous
Any guesses?
anonymous
  • anonymous
yea b
anonymous
  • anonymous
\[5^{2}+12^{2}=17^{2}\] This simplifies to 25 + 144 = 289. Is that equal?
anonymous
  • anonymous
yea?
anonymous
  • anonymous
waiiiit no
anonymous
  • anonymous
Im sorry I did that wrong. *=14^2 which equals 196. 25 +144 = 169, so no they are not equal
anonymous
  • anonymous
lol ik :D
anonymous
  • anonymous
So its either C or D. Do you think you can figure out which one?
anonymous
  • anonymous
D!!!!
anonymous
  • anonymous
Lets try it out!! \[9^{2}+12^{2}=14^{2}\] So, that simplifies tooo 81 + 144 = 196. Is tha equal?
anonymous
  • anonymous
noyo ::(
anonymous
  • anonymous
I guess that just leaves us with C! Shall we? \[8^{2}+15^{2}=17^{2}\] so that gives us 64+225 = 289. Is that equal??
anonymous
  • anonymous
yes!!!!!
anonymous
  • anonymous
:)) the correct answer is C
anonymous
  • anonymous
thank you sooo much i dont know how to thank you !!!!

No problem at all! Happy to help :)
