    To the best of my knowledge the Roman Empire never got that far.

    it is not B because they didn't have a logistic problem, but when the empire split, Rome was not longer the capital and was therefore not defended as such. It is not D, because if it was the empire would have fallen with Nero and Caligula in the 1st century A.D.

    And it's not C because the North Africans didn't push hard enough and by the time they all started pushing, Rome was split.
