    Firstly,the split in states would then be 19 (Union) to 15 (Confederacy), so not such a big numerical difference, something that might encourage support and even official recognition for the CSA from European powers (something that would have meant game over for the Union in the Civil War). @sunshineseekerr

    The #1 cost was that the entire south was deleted from progress for 100 years @sunshineseekerr
