\[3(4x+5)=12\] they want you to multiply by 3 and get \[12x+15=12\] then subtract 15 and get \[12x=-3\]

if you were like not brain dead, like the math teacher that wrote this, you would start with \[3(4x+5)=12\] then divide by 3 and get \[4x+5=4\]

Thank you so much for helping, this is really over complicated. I asked my brother for help and even he said it was overdone and ridiculous.
