I think it looks great :) However its hard to login from a mobile device... i had to email the link of the login page to myself and then login :P but other than that good job! :)
Im working on a example of what i was talking about x'D
The 2 landing page with the books look amazing and they fit perfectly as OpenStudy is a study help website. Only problem with it currently is the double scroll bar.
oh yea, i should also get rid of that scroll bar while im at it... x'D ive gotten used to it x'D as a result i forgot it was there x'D
I think that it looks good Preetha!
Great! Although, I'd like for it to be even more simpler. Instead of typing in OpenStudy.com, picking which subject to study in, then picking either logging in or signing up. I personally think it should be just get to the point and log in. Not the little minor details.
@Jaynator495 "different backgrounds"?? what are you seeing?
the double bar should disappear when officially coded instead of being in unbounce...
the login thing is still a little bothersome Perhaps adding a script so that when people click the "Log In" button on the Landing Page, it would take you to the /study first check to see if you are already logged in or not if you are, it leaves you there at /study if not, it should automatically redirect you to the actual Login page since that was the purpose of the person clicking the "Log In" button just a thought... or just bring back the login bar back to the /study so just one less step than the current method
The header (with the OS logo and login buttons) should always remain on top of the page instead of it being 1 static page. If I'm at the bottom and I want to log in, I'd have to scroll all the way back to the top. Also the double scroll bars like mentioned before looks a bit silly. The login should be a simple popup instead of an entirely different page.
Also the girl with the tablet on the login and signup page looks a little creepy, just saying :p
I had a staring contest with her xD it looks like she has the wrong intentions :P
the procedure with the Log In right now is brings you to /study if you are already logged in, good if you are not, then you should click the other "Log In" button which should bring you to the Log In page in that case, I have no idea how a pop up log in is supposed to work?
the creepy girl will go away once the sign up page is completely coded so people can sign up right on the landing page
Lol, @thomaster someone said that that girl reminds them of me ;))
perhaps just a "Back to the Top" button should suffice then? making the header bar movable = more coding >.>
Nah it's very easy to stick the header to the top of the page. Not much coding required.
that's good to know it would get a little confusing tho because then perhaps the sign up button should be in the header too... but then that would get redundent because the landing page would at that time *be* the sign up page
well yea it'd be even better to just have the signup form included on the landing page.
ohh perhaps you're not seeing the one I'm seeing @thomaster http://prntscr.com/7cqvjs
I meant login form of course ;)
I knew what you meant :P I find it slightly annoying to have to click "login" Then choose my subject (I always just choose math) Then have to click login again, the finally login. But since most the time I'm logged in, I don't really mind that much.
for me it is a fine page, since I like very much textbooks! :)
ill work on that for ya thomaster :P
I personally like the look of the textbooks. ^_^
I like the warm blue color presenting us for a serene entrance. It is putting the users into a tranquil mood which is very nice.
I agree it's a serene entrance The color blue is a good color, and works great for the landing page.
Remember* Colors can effect the mood of the viewer, which is why I am pleased with the landing page. :)
For a landing page, I wouldn't ever use boring colors like black and white, nor sharp, bright colors like red. Therefore, a calm blue is perfect.
7 hours later, http://ultrilliamtest.elementfx.com/os/yolo/openstudy-test/ this is a example of what the landing page should look like in my head using what i said and thomaster :P
http://prntscr.com/7gcvzc /sigh messed up a little bit there but other then that x'D
Wow Jay, that took forever, but looks great.
Why not follow the KISS philosophy? In my opinion the landing page looks bulky, and a major pain to look at. Plus the scrolling is just silly, all the information can fit on a fixed style without the need for scrolling.
as covered, the double scroll will be fixed when officially coded what parts of it do you think can be removed to make it less "bulky"? @Algorithmic
@jaynator495 WOW very well done! :) I'm not sure what screen size you are using but preferably the logo and buttons on the header bar are better off closer to the sides of the window and the "looking for fast expert help" does not seem to be on it? try emailing preetha about that sticky header thing, I'm sure she'll love it :D (and she checks her email much more often)
@mLe I am not talking about the double scroll bar issue, I am saying that the landing page in my opinion should not be a page that is scrollable. It should be static fixed. (Maybe bootstrapped to re-size nicely.) As for reducing bulkiness, as I have done for many people I reduce the amount of wasted space. (E.g. bring elements together, use a CSS style that accents elegance without trashing space.)
I like what Thom suggested (:
*confused because I know 0 about coding* .-. @Algorithmic if you could come up with an example like Jaynator's or even just a picture of how you would like it, that would help ^_^
and mLe, if you have that login button redirect to http://www.openstudy.com/unbounce_login then you're all ready to go. If you are logged in, then that link redirects you to http://www.openstudy.com/study . If you aren't, then it allows you to log in. However, as Thom suggested to have a pop-up box. Why should one have to load another page to login? :P I loved the pop-up box that came when you would try to login while viewing OS as a guest (:
Its very classy, I give it an A+ !
its good but whenever i try to log in i can not click the login icon, so i have to go to my History to log on..
Hi, I find many problems with the new landing page. First of all, what is this http://www.unbouncepages.com ? It dominates every single link, and it is very unprofessional. For example: http://unbouncepages.com/signup-april/clkn/http/openstudy.com/terms-and-conditions http://unbouncepages.com/signup-april/clkn/http/openstudy.com/privacy-policy http://unbouncepages.com/signup-april/clkn/http/openstudy.com/code-of-conduct http://unbouncepages.com/signup-april/clkn/http/blog.openstudy.com http://unbouncepages.com/signup-april/clkn/http/www.monarchads.com http://unbouncepages.com/signup-april/clkn/https/twitter.com/openstudy http://unbouncepages.com/signup-april/clkn/https/www.facebook.com/OpenStudy http://unbouncepages.com/signup-april/clkn/https/www.linkedin.com/company/openstudy.com http://unbouncepages.com/signup-april/clkg/http/openstudy.com/unbounce_signup http://unbouncepages.com/signup-april/clkn/http/openstudy.com/study http://unbouncepages.com/signup-april/clkn/http/openstudy.com/whats-new http://unbouncepages.com/signup-april/clkn/http/unbouncepages.com/signup-april/clkn/http/facebook.com/dialog/oauth?client_id=115342165252&redirect_uri=http%3A%2F%2Fopenstudy.com%2Foauth-redirect-new&scope=user_about_me%2Cuser_education_history%2Cemail%2Cpublish_stream http://unbouncepages.com/signup-april/clkn/http/openstudy.com http://www.openstudy.com/unbounce_login What was wrong with the previous shorter and sweeter links? Why do you need to have unbouncepages redirect your links? Next, take a look at the attachment called `OpenStudy_LandingPage1` Why have you put up the user's name and not their username? How does that help? Why not just put their usernames so new users can find these gems of OpenStudy easier if they need help since they are being featured on the front page of OpenStudy. Also, in the same screenshot, why are we not up to date on the information posted on it? That shows that the site rarely updates and is not up-to-date... For example, some outdated information on it: High school senior [I'm pretty sure the user has moved on with life and is no longer a High school senior.] 1200 Answers [She has now more than that many questions answered for sure. Also, this gives an idea to new users that we only provide answers, and not guidance on questions.] 2000 questions/day [I doubt that we get that many questions a day in all the subjects combinied on OpenStudy. This doesn't even account for all the questions that get left unanswered in the dead subjects.] All levels [We do not have levels on OpenStudy; We have something called a SmartScore.] Math and Science [Ashley does not help in Science and Math. She is a History major, why tell others she is good in a subject she is not?] 500 fans [Ashley has more than 500 fans.] Furthermore, now please look at `OpenStudy_LandingPage2`, why does it have 2 extra scrolling bars? There is one extra vertical and horizontal scroll bar. And those 2 quotes, please. Somebody just wrote them, and it's not even true. Open up a google form and ask users to write OpenStudy a short testimonial and then feature the best ones you get. No need to make one for others. Now, please take a look at `OpenStudy_LandingPage3`. "Hundreds online in Mathematics, Chemistry, English and others, 24/7. Get an explanation from someone fast. Real Help. Really Fast." Chemistry? Barely anyone helps on Chemistry... We have only a few Chemistry helpers and a lot more Chemistry askers. Of course, I know you have to put up stuff like "Real Help." and "Really fast." for appeasement, but what kind of site provides fake help? It's help or it's not help. "Why study alone? The OpenStudy community is full of friendly people just like you. We make learning fun." Who said I was friendly? It seems like I'm more overcritical than friendly... "Help someone understand a concept or solve a problem. Become their LifeSaver! Manage the community as a Moderator. Earn money as a Qualified Helper." This paragraph makes it seem so easy to become a moderator or a Qualified Helper when it actually isn't... But all in the name of promotion. "Get recognition. A volunteering certificate. A report of problem solving, engagement and teamwork. Subject specific titles. Advance in school, college or employment." Why should people help others for free, and then pay money to get a volunteering certificate? Maybe an indirect variation between how much you have helped OpenStudy and how much the volunteering certificate costs would be better. I do understand OpenStudy needs money, however. Finally, take a look at `OpenStudy_LandingPage4`. Why is the OpenStudy logo small? You need a bigger logo... Also, why does clicking the owl, right above the words "Why Study Alone?," redirect you to sign-up? And lets not forget about that creepy girl on http://www.openstudy.com/unbounce_login. Sincerely, Abdullah M
*throws a chair out the window* I like the older one better! >.<
http://prntscr.com/7h1deb What I don't see that thingy there on mine <_< And @Jaynator495 http://prntscr.com/7h1ede http://prntscr.com/7h1ei7
OMG my icons are up :'3
@sammixboo the white bar was the added suggestion by you ;P thanks
AbdullahM is to Landing Pages as sleepyhead is to music @thesmartone right? xP
? And OS is acting up for some reason on my side... I see two scroll bars while viewing this page? And a lot of empty space...
now, Thank you @AbdullahM for your detailed critique! Your feedback will help us immensely in our aim to make a better Landing Page :) The "Unbouce" links~ currently OpenStudy is using a program, unbounce, to test different designs and gather statistic/information on sign-up rates vs visit rates etc. It allows OpenStudy to determine which design is most successful. (currently is has been the "blue books" design). Once there is declared a winner, Preetha and the dev team will code all of it officially - thereby removing/fixing the unbounce links (bringing back the "shorter sweeter links"), the button problems, and the double scroll bar. As stated above, the sign up page will *become* the landing page (people will be able to sign up directly on the landing page) therefore the "creepy girl" will be gone. hooking content~ they (the content of the user's names, questions answered, etc) are not live content, and are simply examples for possible new users to get a grasp on what we are all about. not live content - therefore does not have to be associated with the actual person - therefore no username and information may be out of date. hooking content is hooking content, chemistry can be changed to history if you would like. moderator and qualified helper mentions are simply stating that those are possibilities with joining of the site - with no mention if it being easy. (well, there had been a moderator who became a mod in a short period of time because they had been an ex professor somewhere). many of us *are* friendly :) I might even consider you as friendly despite your critical-ness because you have stated many good points with hopes that we can improve instead of bashing with no details, and I'm sure you aren't the type of person to turn around when someone say hi to you and tell them to go dig their own grave -> therefore you are friendly ^_^ (*in my books) the paying to get a volunteer certificate can be discussed elsewhere, I have already suggested to Preetha to make it free with the unlocking of a Purple (3000) medal title. I think, that covered most of it :P sorry for my poor grammar :-/ and thanks for pointing out all that you have!
Thanks for the detailed response mLe (:
I don't see any bar
yes, we have two versions of the design floating around to see which one users like more :P one with the white bar, one without the one *with* is currently doing better :)
Is iy he transparent white or a solid white?
Are we going to update the other OS sites like: http://www.openstudy.com/about-us http://www.openstudy.com/courses ... etc
