    Petroleum forms from the compressed and liquidized remains of organisms like plankton and algae from millions of years ago, biogenic natural gas is from the bacterial decomposition remains of plants and organisms from millions of years ago. Thermogenic natural gas comes from compressed and heated buried organic matter.
