Explain why a ray of light is shifted sideways when it passes through a rectangular prism. What properties of the prism determine how much the light ray is moved

    its actually the structure of the prism that determines the divesion of the light.. lets say the lattce structure/molecuolar arragement or impurities (rarely)

    for macroscopic optics all what @harishk said is contained in the index of refraction of the material of which the prism is made
