What was one result of the First Great Awakening? Church membership steadily declined in the Catholic Church. People began to examine their own personal relationships with God. The Protestant religions began to lose followers to the Catholic faith. Religious intolerance toward non-Christians began to slowly increase. Scientific findings called the idea of faith into question.
