    Well, with the Treaty of Tordesillas, Portugal gained control over Brazil, although they didn't know that at the time. I believe Portugal got trading rights to Africa, as well. And Portugal was one of the first to engage in the World Wide Slave Trade business. So that only leaves one more answer
