    Since BA is a midsegment, BZ is also 5. |dw:1434749558757:dw| The triangles are similar. \[\frac{ XB }{ XZ }=\frac{ BA }{ ZY }\] \[\frac{ 5 }{ 10 }=\frac{ x-1 }{ 10 }\]

    "Mid segment" means B and A are mid-points of XZ and XY respectively. Thus XBA and XZY are similar triangles.

    yes, you can, but you don't really have to. Both denominators are 10, so you can just say 5 = x -1
