square of (a+b) square means multiply with itself. like square of 2 is 2*2 =4 square of a+b is (a+b)*(a+b) distribute!

\[\left( a+b \right)^2 \] you have to write (a+b)(a+b) twice because the exponent is 2

    when I first learned it I memorized a code (1+2)(3+4) = (1)(3)+(1)(4)+(2)(3)+(2)(4) (first #)(third #)+ (first #)(fourth#)+(2nd #)(3rd #)+(2nd #)(4th #) but I don't do it anymore
