Lets name this as we usually do with alkenes (text obtained from wiki): 1) Number the longest carbon chain that contains the double bond in the direction that gives the carbon atoms of the double bond the lowest possible numbers: |dw:1434969015027:dw| This gives us butene (butane is 5 carbon when saturated). 2) Indicate the location of the double bond by the location of its first carbon: The double bond is on the first carbon according to the numeration so we make the name 1-butene 3) Name branched or substituted alkenes in a manner similar to alkanes: From the drawing we have a branching on carbon number 2 and the branching is 2 carbon long. The alkane name for that is ethane, when side groups we use "yl" thereby we get the name: 2-ethyl-1-pentene.
