If a student wants to quote from a favorite novel for a research paper, how can the student use the quotation? The student can freely use or change any literary work in a research paper. The student can quote from a literary work, provided that the author is cited. The student can quote from a literary work for academic purposes without citing the source. The student must always obtain permission from the author to use a selection of a literary work.
