why modern English reflects the influence of several languages? The early inhabitants of Britain were seafaring traders who traveled to several countries. Between AD 500 and 1200, invaders from several countries conquered parts of Britain. After 1500, the authors and linguists who created English dictionaries borrowed words from several other languages. The best-known authors of the Anglo-Saxon period used a mixture of several languages. There was no written form of the English language until 1200, when writers put together words from several languages to create a lexicon
