What is the function of metaphor in this line from the passage? It was the blood-stained gate, the entrance to the hell of slavery, through which I was about to pass. It compares an experience to a method of torture. It compares an experience to a physical gate. It describes a typical initiation into slavery. It describes the author’s entry into adulthood.
