if the 3 consecutive numbers are n , n+1 and n+2 then we have the equation
n + n + 1 + n + 2 = 267
solve for n

n is a symbol for the lowest of the 3 integers
i could have used n , m x y or any letter
this is algebra
ok thank you
can you solve it or do you want me to show you how ?
is the final answer n+2 or is there more stuff to do?
no there is some more manipulation to do
n at present is unknown and we need to find its value .
n in words can be described as ' some integer'
and we can describe the equation in words as
'there is an unknown integer which when added to the next consecutive integer and to the next integer after that gives a total of 267'
the next 2 integers are of course n+1 and n + 2
when we add 3 n's we write it as 3n ( which is like 3 times n but the multiply is left out
and 1 + 2 is of course 3
so the equation becomes
3n + 3 = 267
