## bobobox one year ago I need some help I need to get atleast over 70% on this assignment or else I can't take my final exams. It's five questions about the division of monomials.

1. bobobox

@TheSmartOne

2. bobobox

First question.

3. anonymous

square the top what do you get?

4. bobobox

16x

5. anonymous

hmm no $(4x)^2=4x\times 4x$ which is not $$16x$$

6. bobobox

this is hard Can you explain to me why? @TheSmartOne

7. anonymous

4x times 4x = 4x^2 you forgot to multiply the variables

8. anonymous

I MEAN 16x^2 sorry

9. bobobox

okay, so would it be |dw:1435630935368:dw|

10. bobobox

then which answer would it be? I think its d

11. anonymous

no

12. bobobox

c?

13. anonymous

when multiplying fractions you multiply the denominators 4x/y * 4x/y = 16x^2/y^2

14. bobobox

oh yes thats right you cant just multiply the numerator @090909090909

15. bobobox

So c right? could you possibly help me with the next?

16. anonymous

yah. try the next ones first though and I'll check them

17. bobobox

okay! one sec

18. bobobox

19. anonymous

yis

20. bobobox

could i have you check the next?

21. anonymous

yeah I can check them all

22. bobobox

23. anonymous

looks like they had some trouble with the font size when they made up these questions `

24. bobobox

yeah

25. anonymous

26. bobobox

yay

27. bobobox

i dont know how to do this one

28. anonymous

@090909090909 ?

29. bobobox

See it's a strange one

30. bobobox

@090909090909

31. anonymous

$\huge \frac{16s^2t}{8st^2}$ is what they want you to compute

32. bobobox

okay let me take a crack at it

33. bobobox

I think the answer is c

34. anonymous

yes, it is usually C it is in that case too

35. bobobox

I hope so because if I don't get these right I might not graduate! one more question to check

36. bobobox

37. bobobox

38. TheSmartOne

wrong

39. TheSmartOne

$$\sf\Large\frac{a^b}{a^c}=a^{b-c}$$

40. anonymous

hmmmm

41. anonymous

this is not easy to answer for sure

42. bobobox

whaaaaaat

43. anonymous

i would say 3 also

44. TheSmartOne

it's -3

45. bobobox

Are you sure?

46. anonymous

depends on your definition of "simplified form" which is why this is such a dangerous word to use

47. bobobox

I'm not exactly sure what their definition is

48. anonymous

in the previous questions, "simplify" meant "write using positive exponents only"

49. bobobox

I just used a dividing monomials calculator and it said 3

50. TheSmartOne

$$\sf\Huge \frac{27x^2z}{-3x^2z^4}=-9z^{-3}$$

51. anonymous

of course you aren't sure, there is no such mathematical operation as "simplify" it is the lazy math teachers way of saying "give me the answer i want"

52. bobobox

let me retry it once more

53. anonymous

and $-9z^{-3}=\frac{9}{z^3}$ so what is "simpler"?

54. TheSmartOne

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Satellite, I guess another good example for your dissertation of horrible questions made by taechers :p

55. anonymous

ok actually it is $$-\frac{9}{z^3}$$ but youi get the idea

56. anonymous

yes, this goes right in to the "bad math" pile

57. anonymous

i would go with 3 with the understanding that it is just a guess

58. bobobox

I got -3

59. bobobox

what the heck

60. bobobox

im going with 3

61. anonymous

who wrote the question?

62. bobobox

im not sure which company but i got a one hundred!!!!! If I open a new question can you amazing folks help me out as great as you have right now?

63. anonymous

on line school?

64. bobobox

Yup

65. anonymous

it has to say somewhere where the questions come from

66. bobobox

it doesn't say it's becuase they don't wan their student looking up cheats
