- ganeshie8

set both the expressions equal to each other and solve \(x\)
|dw:1436001130197:dw|

- anonymous

how do you set up the expressions tho

- ganeshie8

\[\large 5x-6~~=~~3x+4\]

- anonymous

whats do you do after that

- ganeshie8

your goal is to isolate \(x\)

- ganeshie8

check this video quick

- anonymous

is that it so far

- Astrophysics

Unfortunately not, you should try to get the like terms first, the ones with variables and the ones without...so if you want to add or subtract and his has variables you can only do it with another one which has the same variables, hence collecting like terms.

- Astrophysics

|dw:1436002008476:dw| for example

- ganeshie8

nevertheless that is a very bold attempt @senpai_yerm
i see khan's video has constant term as first term, so that must have confused u

- anonymous

yea thnx

- Astrophysics

You're doing great though, so keep at it :P

- anonymous

soo what would be the second step

- anonymous

oh 5

- Astrophysics

Hey, try doing the first step again first, collect like terms

- ganeshie8

First get rid of this constant on left hand side, add 6 to both sides

- ganeshie8

|dw:1436002643561:dw|

- anonymous

cancel the left part out and on the right get a 3x=10?

- ganeshie8

do you mean this
|dw:1436002766457:dw|

- anonymous

yup

- ganeshie8

good, next what

- anonymous

subtract 3x from 5 then 3 cancels out

- ganeshie8

do it

- anonymous

2x+10?

- anonymous

hmm big lobby-_-

- anonymous

answer is 5...correct

- ganeshie8

pretty earlier sure you meant \[\large 2x = 10\]
and yeah \(x=5\) is correct! good job!!

- anonymous

#!@#$ yeahhh!!
