## sleepyhead314 one year ago I haven't been gone long enough to know, but does OpenStudy have some sort of "Hey come back to study with us" email for when people become inactive? If not, can we organize something to make one? :3

1. anonymous

that would be spam

@mushroomz Not true, you gave OpenStudy your emails when you signed up. As long as you are allowed to unsubscribe from the emails, we *are* allowed to send them ^_^

3. anonymous

Yep, that is true. It is not spam as long as you are able to unsubscribe from such things. And also when you verify your email address for your account, you are hereby granting OpenStudy permission to send you updates via email. Also about your idea, that doesn't sound like such a bad idea actually. It could actually encourage some users to return if they need further assistance on some things.

mhmm especially those people who left for summer break and might not remember to come back next school year we should at least give them a nudge back ;)

5. anonymous

Yeah. xD

6. anonymous

if people went inactive its because they didn't want to be active, so better not annoy them and make hotmail blacklist openstudy

7. anonymous

Many times, a user asks a question then leaves before receiving an answer. If this new email system would improve user retention rates by even just a little, we should at least try to implement it :)

9. anonymous

Exactly, it could work. Should we see what @Preetha would think?

I would like to hear other's opinions first, as well as any suggestions for what should be in such an email ^_^

11. anonymous

True. Gotta have the public vote before the co-founder herself can decide on it. 'Tis a democracy after all. =P

12. anonymous

many websites got blackmailed by hotmail and put permanently in the spam post by doing stuffs like this

13. anonymous

if that's what u guys want then it's fine

majority uses gmail, we're clear ;) lol jk but still, it's not that bad of a concern. We are simply asking if they would like to come back, a suggestion no that they have to and they *can* unsubscribe

15. TheSmartOne

It's been suggested before in other posts, it would be nice to have. (: Think of all those new users who never come back after they post a question ;-; We would definitely increase our retention rate :)

16. anonymous

guys here's the thing, u need to understand the psychology of people posting 1 question and never come back

@mushroomz and you should understand that not *everyone* thinks like that and for the few people that will come back to OpenStudy from this, it will be worth it!

18. anonymous

i think when it's time to let go, we should let go

19. anonymous

Whale, that's a relief.

20. anonymous

if they got their answers, they will come back its cuz they waited a long time and no answer, so they left the solution is not annoying them with more "come back we are desperate!!" and more with provide actually more meaningful/fast help got it?

21. anonymous

kid, u need to see the root of the problem

22. anonymous

Oh don't be a Negative Nancy. x3

23. horsegirl27

I think this would be a great idea!! Make it like if they are gone a few months, and be able to disable the emails if wanted, as they might not be able to come back for various reasons.

24. anonymous

I was gone for at least a year. Long enough to forget the site existed. I never got anything. It may not be spam, but those emails can get annoying quickly. It wouldn't be a bad idea, but at most once every few months, like around high traffic times. Or maybe a lifetime limit type of deal, say 5 "come back" email per user.

25. anonymous

I agree with this idea :) OS should have one of those emails. This is the only study site that doesn't have that. If someone doesn't like this kind of reminders, they could just easily put it in their block lists(built-in feature in email) or unsuscribe from OS updates. Besides, I don't think OpenStudy will keep sending an email everyday about that, maybe once in a month reminder to visit the site is not considered as a spam (like peachpi already mentioned). The purpose of this is to promote OpenStudy.

lel I was thinking of just two times tbh :P one 1 month after no login another 3 months after that email

27. jigglypuff314

high traffic times is a good idea @peachpi :) so something like a "back to school" one, "midterms", and "finals" time areas might be an option

28. anonymous

yes. that will probably work out to about 6-8 emails annually, which isn't too bad.

29. UsukiDoll

There are many email providers besides hotmail. There's yahoo, gmail, mail (yes that's real and not a typo), and even temporary emails. I sort of agree with @mushroomz. I'm not sure if I want an email from OS for me to come back if I'm gone for a while. Like, if I'm busy and can't go on OS due to school and OS continues to bug me, I will be more inactive because I will assume that OS is desperate. I have a life beyond OS. I agree with @peachpi and @horsegirl27 if this idea goes through, make those emails limited, and provide an option to disable those emails.

30. rvc

Agree with @UsukiDoll :)

Personally I was just thinking of making so that it sends once, two months after they last login. (a summer break's length of time) as a friendly reminder...

32. vera_ewing

I like this idea! :)

33. Kash_TheSmartGuy

Same Here. We should ask @Preetha to add this in the OpenStudy "come back" emails. Good idea, @sleepyhead314

34. anonymous

agreed

36. Jaynator495

I dont see this as being needed for a study site, but ok :P

@Jaynator495 Preetha's goal is World Education our goals as an ambassador include increasing user retention

$$\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}$$ @sleepyhead314 @Jaynator495 Preetha's goal is World Education our goals as an ambassador include increasing user retention $$\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}$$ fair enough... :P

anyone good with words wanna draft out what it might say? english isn't my forte ^_^"

40. anonymous

Good idea. :) I like it.

41. thomaster

1 mail wouldn't hurt. What this mushroomz guy is saying is total nonsense. No mail provider would put someone on the spam blacklist for sending such mails. All OS mails already do have an unsubscribe button. There's this option to uncheck: "Send me occasional mailings about OpenStudy". Besides if you don't edit your mails settings on OS you'll be bombarded with mails about site activity around your questions and posts, so if it were true, OS would be on the blacklist a long time ago. OT: great idea!

42. UsukiDoll

how about one reminder email every two or three months?

43. Joel_the_boss

only 1 in every 100,000 people read the Privacy policy's and terms and conditions when signing up. So the odds are you just signed your soul to the devil my friend. :3 @CausticSyndicalist Your concern of spam could be addressed if we took the time to read the wonderful rules and policies of this website. $$\tiny \text {I myself did not read them until 6 months into this website so i cant say anything, hehe.}$$

44. anonymous

lol, i completely agree with this, but like other users already said, there should be times set. if there are too many sent, it would create a problem, for various reasons. i think that every other month would be okay, as the emails would not be very long or needy. just a polite, reminder - in case u forgot about this site and need some help. of course this would not be what the email says, but just as a baseline. when and if this gets voted and the numbers are close, there should be a popup the 1st time a user comes on after this is set up asking if they want this or not. just a little popup, yes, i would like reminder emails bimonthly , or no i don not want these emails. that way, there is no iffys, so to speak, about these spammings. if the user is too lazy to read the three sentence popup, and they do not wish for these popups, it is their own fault, not OS s. putting aside all the negative sides of this idea, this is a fantastic idea, as many users forget about OS unintentionally.
