The more you engage in this site in a positive way ... by helping others or teamwork (when other users work with you or vice versa) the higher your SmartScore is. I have to admit that going from red to yellow is easy, but at soon as you reach a certain number, it becomes hard.

"Every little thing you do on OpenStudy can increase your smartscore. It's how well you do these things to increase it. There's no fast easy way to increase it. It takes time. For the problem solving portion, you must answer questions not only in detail, but guiding the user to understanding the problem. Giving direct answers is not only not allowed, but it doesn't even help the user understand anything. Plus, direct answers don't increase your smartscore as fast as answering in detail would. Teamwork! One thing people consider to be somewhat hard to do. By gaining fans as well as fanning users, you are then increasing your smartscore even more! The more fans you earn, the higher you go. But be aware that creating accounts to fan yourself doesn't increase your smartscore by much. Also, it's not allowed and could lead to your main account being suspended forever. You best bet would be to enter chats, as well as help out a lot. Lastly we have engagement. Here is the fun part, when you ask questions you're increasing your smartscore! Isn't that cool? You can increase your smartscore just by making threads you need help on! Not to mention the amount of medals you earn and give out can help increase it faster! But keep in mind, spamming yourself with medals isn't allowed on here and will not increase your smartscore fast at all. Another thing about engagement is that the longer you're on here, the higher your smartscore goes too! It's as if almost everything on here will increase your smartscore. It can be fun and I hope you find it very fun too. I hope you have the best time on OpenStudy and good luck with the journey on here. c:" ~beccaboo333

" Every time you get a medal, you'll be awarded a SmartCent. Also, the website keeps track of the sections you got those medals in. When you reach certain milestones in how many medals (not SmartCents) you've gotten in a section, you'll unlock the ability to get new titles in that section. You can then use your SmartCents to purchase the titles for yourself. This removes your SmarCents, but not your medal count. ~ KingGeorge SmartCents is a way to recognize those experts and teachers in the area of their expertise. When you receive a medal, you will now receive an equivalent number of SmartCents. When you get enough medals in a certain group, you can unlock Titles with your SmartCents! :) Now you can display your intellectual triumphs right by your name and on your profile. The titles you choose to unlock will speak about your expertise, your achievements, and your reputation here on OpenStudy. People will be more inclined to listen to you and seek out your calculus help if you are “Owlfred Smith, Olympic Mathlete” than if you are just Owlfred Smith. Take the three titles in Math. The easiest is the green level, The Human Calculator. You can qualify for this title, if you have just 50 medals in Math. Once you have qualified, you can unlock the title if you have 50 SmartCents. When you unlock this title, 50 SmartCents will be subtracted from your account. The medals will stay with you. If you lose your medals, your SmartCents will also be debited. But not to worry, you can always go gain more medals by helping more OpenStudiers. How do you get one of these for yourself? Go to your userpofile. Note the new Trophy Room icon. Go to check out your medal tally. Click on Unlock titles to see the available titles and which ones you qualify for. Click on Unlick Titles. You’ll see a list of Groups and titles, some of which you may be able to unlock! Go ahead and try it! Your new title will come up in the bar and should show up next to your name! If you have several levels of titles for that group, then the highest level title should show up. If you are a Renaissance person and are awesome in many Study Groups, hey, the most relevant title will show up of course. When in Math, you are a Mathlete, and when in History, you just became an Encyclopedia for Hire. And yes, some titles are hard to get, and some almost impossible! Almost. And that is only the beginning. The game my friends, is on!"

You get SmartCents (SC) when you receive a medal, or invite a friend to OpenStudy. You can use these SC's to get an OpenStudy Title. See how I have 'Trusted Helper'? That is one of the many OpenStudy titles I have. If you would like me to explain further what titles are, let me know
