    A positive ion means loss of one or more electrons. Denoted by a positive charge above the element. The Loss of one or more electrons causes the positive charge to increase and thus the electrons are held in more tightly hence atomic radius is smaller.

    Also you need to know that all atoms are electrically neutral because the number of electrons = number of protons.
