The sum of two numbers is 18. Twice the smaller number decreased by 3 equals the larger number. What are the two numbers?

    i got it here The sum of two numbers is 18. The larger is 2 less than 4 times the smaller. Find the number. S + L = 18 L = 4S - 2 S + L = 18 S + 4S - 2 = 18 5S - 2 + 2 = 18 + 2 5S = 20 5S/5 = 20/5 S = 4 << Smaller number L = 4S - 2 L = 4*4 - 2 L = 16 - 2 = 14 << Larger number
