## briana.img one year ago One last question for the night, solve triangle XYZ

1. briana.img

2. misty1212

HI!! (again) best to draw it

3. briana.img

|dw:1436503217700:dw|

4. briana.img

i'm nver confident on the sides i draw them on

5. misty1212

wow if you don't mine me saying so, that is the ugliest triangle i have ever seen!!

6. misty1212

let me try one

7. briana.img

LMAO MISTTTYY

8. misty1212

|dw:1436503397981:dw|

9. misty1212

ok not terrific, but it least it has straight sides !

10. misty1212

good to fill in the 52 right away as before $180-39-88=53$

11. briana.img

@misty1212 oooh okay okay i see you so we just need to figure out the side leghts

12. misty1212

right you notice the answer choices all have $$X=53^\circ$$ so that was kind of a no brainer

13. briana.img

@misty1212 omg youre right haha well i got down to it and i'm at $\frac{ \sin88 }{ 70 }=\frac{ \sin53 }{ x }$ i just put x for no reason

14. briana.img

@misty1212 got 55.9

15. misty1212

a) we should the x for sure because there is an x there b) it is silly to put the variable in the denominator !

16. briana.img

@misty1212 the notes that i took from my course are like that haha just following the examples in my notes

17. misty1212

$\frac{x}{\sin(53)}=\frac{70}{\sin(88)}$

18. misty1212

so $x=\frac{70\sin(53)}{\sin(88)}$

19. misty1212
20. misty1212

yeah 55.9

21. misty1212

still have two choices, so need z

22. briana.img

@misty1212 so now $\frac{ 70 }{ \sin88 } = \frac{ z }{ \sin39 }???$

23. misty1212

yah

24. misty1212
25. briana.img

@misty1212 so i got 44.07 so it would mean that D is the answer

26. misty1212

idk let me look

27. misty1212

yeah looks good i love how they put in the numbers they give you too!

28. misty1212

you done for the night?

29. briana.img

@misty1212 yeah i wanna keep going but i know i should stop because i keep getting really frustrated and feel like crying but thanks a lot misty i've never been so lost in a unit

30. misty1212

why are you crying? you got all of these !!

31. misty1212

law of sines and cosines not as bad as a lot of trig for sure identities are much worse and solving equations

32. briana.img

@misty1212 math usually just makes me feel really really dumb and usually feel liek giving up

33. misty1212

once you get the hang of it, you will think it is easy, trust me it is frustrating learning for sure, and i get the impression this is an on line class so it is kind of diy but don't give up plus you can always ask here seems like you are doing ok to me

34. briana.img

@misty1212 yeah i've been doing fine with the other lessons but this lesson just really didn't stick at all

35. misty1212

especially compared to some who are doing problems just has hard but don't even know the basic trig ratios

36. briana.img

@misty1212 yikes that's hella scary but thanks a lot misty you really saved me tonight and really made me understand

37. misty1212

maybe you got stuck on the proofs, the mechanics of solving triangles gets routine though law of sines, law of cosines, that is all

38. misty1212

your welcome maybe i see you some other night

39. misty1212

lol "you're welcome"

40. xapproachesinfinity

If two angles were given and one side I would immediately think of law of sine. When two sides are given with an angle makes sense to use law of cosine

41. xapproachesinfinity

It's all about practice to master the concept! No need to get frustrated as learning new concepts take some time to sink in. Just keep practicing
