A political effect of the Enlightenment was that.. some monarchs embraced new ideas from the movement. support for rebels fighting the French Revolution decreased. many people rejected the idea of representative government. the constitutional monarchy in England came to an end.

    Enlightenment thought was important, but it must be understood in context and in combination with other ideas. The Declaration of Independence, for example, only briefly reflects Enlightenment theory -- much of it stems from OTHER ideas
