Sodium is an explosive metal. Chlorine is a poisonous gas. You would expect a compound made of sodium and chlorine to be very dangerous. very explosive and poisonous. very closely related to the element that makes up the majority of the compound. unrelated to the individual properties of sodium and chlorine.
