## anonymous one year ago Did i do this right? here is my problem (x – 2) (3x-4) Remove the parenthesis x times 3=3x^2. x times -4 = -4x -2* 3x^2 = -6x^2 -2* -4x= 8x Now we have -6x^2 -8x Not sure if i combine or Divide... Guessing i'll combine. -6x^2 +-8x = 14^3 <-- my answer.

not quite, let's take it from the top (x-2)(3x-4) let's multiply the first terms x*3x = 3x^2 then the outer terms x*(-4) = -4x then the inner terms (-2)*(3x) = -6x then the last (-2)*(-4) = 8 now we combine: 3x^2 - 4x - 6x + 8 = 3x^2 - 10x + 8

let me know if there's anything you're still confused about

$$\large (x - 2) (3x-4)\implies \begin{array}{crllll} x\cdot 3x\implies &3x^2\\ x\cdot -4\implies &-4x\\ -2\cdot 3x\implies &-6x\\ -2\cdot -4\implies &+8 \end{array}$$

Where did the 3x^2 come from didn't we just use that to make 6x? @Vocaloid

5. Vocaloid

you need to use the (3x) twice

(A-B)(C-D) = A*C-A*D-B*C+B*D

adding everything together: 3x^2-4x-6x+8 = 3x^2-10x+8

Alright thanks a lot for explaining.
