You want to know what x is equal to. That means you want x alone on the left side equaling some number on the right side. Since 1/21 is multiplying x, you need to multiply the left side by the reciprocal of 1/21. The reciprocal of 1/21 is 21. In an equation, you must do the same operation to both sides, so multiply both sides by 21.

    The reason you multiply 1/21 by its reciprocal, 21, is that a number multiplied by its reciprocal equals 1. That means 21 * 1/21 * x = x The left side is just x now. What is 21 * 1/7 = ?
