    An independent variable does not depend on another variable. The dependent variable is dependent on the independent variable. For example I'll do the first one for you. Plant growth is dependent on light. The growth of the plant depends on how much light the plant gets. The light does not depend on the plants growth. So in this case the plant growth is dependent and the the light is the independent variable
