your independent variable was what you put into the water of the onions. your dependent variable would be the amount of water. maybe event the time. and kind of the fact that you used only three nutrients on each plant. although that last sentence I said would more likely go with your independent variable. you see, your independent variable is something you can change. something you have control over. you DON'T have control over the dependent variable, and now that I think of it, your dependent variable could also be the growth of the onion. something you cannot exactly control.
