think about it like this the accerlation is 9.8m/s /s and acc=velocity/time =-9.8m/s /s so the veloicty is 9.8m/s less every second we started with 2.1m/s every second we lose 9.8m/s
2.1 - 9.8 - 9.8 - 9.8=
