    The answer is A because ionic bonds, in contrast to covalent bonds, form by transferring electrons instead of sharing them. Furthermore, they are bonds that form between individual atoms and not whole molecules as C suggests.

    And because one atom has lost and one atom has gained electrons they are called ions.
