    Yes that is right! Those numbers are in between -2 and -3, and -2.9 is the point that was in between them.

    When you deal with negative numbers, they are mirror images of positive numbers on the number line. Since 2.9 is between 2 and 3, then -2.9 is between -2 and -3.
