    In other words, replace 8x with 10x - 2x so that you have 4x^2 + 10x - 2x -5

    Basically, at this point you can factor by grouping. So I guess that's what you wanted to know right?

    You take the expression 4x^2 + 10x - 2x -5 and do the following: 1. Factor the first two terms 2, Factor the last two terms 3. Factor out what is common to both factorizations. Let me know what you get afterwards.
