Ionic bonds are weak, like holding something together with tape. They occur between ions, which give up their _______ electrons.

    Bonding occurs with valence electrons. But ionic bonds are actually not that weak and stronger than covalent bonding due to an increased difference in electronegativity values which causes a higher attraction.
