    take half of 16 to get 8 then square 8 to get 64. This is the value you add to both sides |dw:1439183526259:dw|

    then you'll notice that \[\Large x^2+16x+64\] factors to \[\Large (x+8)^2\] so that explains why 64 was added to both sides
