Indentured servants were given new homes after they were set free. People could improve their social status by becoming an indentured servant.

When coming over to America? An indentured servant makes 0 by the way. I also don't think they were given homes. If the question is refers to Europeans coming to America people indentured themselves to pay for the passage. They did not get a house out of the deal.
