    you have 2 unknown in 1 linear equation this is a mix-match unless your question should say make y the subject of the equation.

    ok isolate the term with x to one side of the equation divide by the coefficient of x to make the coefficient 1 whatever you do to one side of the equation also do to the other to maintain the balance
