Think of latitude as parallel lines that go across the globe; they also are often referenced with temperature.. While longitude go north and south and touch at the north and south poles. Both are expressed in minutes and degrees.

Think of them like this, latitude rhymes with fat. Lat and fat. Fat is wide, so latitude goes horizontally accross the globe. While longitude is long, which means tall, so goes up and down.
