too many equal signs

HI!!

3. misty1212

is it $3x^2-2x=2x+7$?

4. anonymous

3x2 - 2x = 2x + 7 ⇒ x=2.333 , x=-1 am I right

5. anonymous

no

6. anonymous

wat did I do wrong

7. anonymous

$\frac{7}{3}\neq 2.333$

8. anonymous

@misty1212 the problem is 3x^2-2x=2x+7

9. misty1212

subtract $$2x+7$$ from both sides to set it equal to zero, and solve$3x^2-4x-7=0$ by factoring

10. misty1212

i am bad at factoring, but i think it factors as $(3x-7)(x+1)=0$

11. misty1212

as a matter of fact, i am sure it does

12. anonymous

yes the answers are right because my teacher gives us the answers but we have to show the work and she doesn't really teach us so i never know who to do the homework

13. misty1212

are you asking how to factor it?

14. wolf1728

Were you taught to use the quadratic formula?

15. misty1212

or how to solve ? once you have $(3x-7)(x+1)=0$ set each factor equal to zero and solve for $$x$$ so $x+1=0\\ x=-1$ and $3x-7=0\\ 3x=7\\ x=\frac{7}{3}$

16. anonymous

thats what i did and i got the answers right

So, everything's okay Cheyenne?
